Morning Report

Good morning race fans! Welcome to Lincoln Financial Field as we anticipate an action-packed supercross event all day long. We could see an afternoon shower around the time of the night show as we expect a cloudy day with a high of about 61° Fahrenheit.

After a wild East/West Showdown last weekend in Tennessee, we are back with just the 250SX East Region racing today joining the 450SX Class. Cameron McAdoo’s 22nd place—and zero points—saw the red plates switch hands over to Tom Vialle, who has a 13-point lead over Haiden Deegan. Now, McAdoo’s supercross season is officially over due to a shoulder injury. Huge blow to McAdoo, his family, and the whole Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team. Two-time MX2 FIM Motocross World Champion Vialle is back in the driver’s seat of this championship as Deegan needs to gain some points on the #16 if he wants a shot at this title. After today, only the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Showdown at the season finale remains.

Seth Hammaker is returning to racing for his home race, which he is super excited about. Five-time AMA Arenacross Champion Kyle Peters is racing the 250SX Class today on a #408 Honda CRF250R. Keep an eye out for the Phoenix Racing Honda rider.

The 15th round of the 450SX championship welcomes Jett Lawrence as the sole points leader entering the day. Cooper Webb sits five points back in a pivotal round here today. Will the #18 open up more of a gap or will the #2 close in on the 450SX rookie? Eli Tomac was ripping yesterday during press day as the #3 looks to close out this supercross season on a strong note. Chase Sexton did not ride press day yesterday but the #1 is in for today’s racing. Also in for today’s racing is Dylan Ferrandis, who is making his return to the starting gates for the first time since the Birmingham SX round on Mach 9.

Unfortunately, Ken Roczen is sidelined for the rest of the supercross season due to injuries from his hard crash in the whoops last week in Tennessee.

For more injury updates, read our full Philadelphia SX injury report.

And note, the 450SX Class goes first in qualifying, the heat races, and the LCQ, but the 250SX main event will race first before the 450SX main event. This schedule mimics the same program we saw at the Detroit Supercross in February.

Second Qualifying Sessions

450SX

Cooper Webb, Eli Tomac, and Chase Sexton out front off the start of the second 450SX group A qualifying session. Jett Lawrence was buried on the fake start and eventually rolled around until he was the last rider on the track. Webb was leading until Sexton jumped into P1. The #1 was doing a quad in the long rhythm section. But then Webb jumped back into P1 after a fast lap. Dylan Ferrandis was one of the riders jumping over the roller on the inside of the sand turn, which was a nice line. Webb had a 51.546 as Jett Lawrence was going on a heater on his final lap, but the #18 hit neutral and tipped over to the inside. On the tenth and final lap, Hunter Lawrence came through the finish line after a heater lap and put down a 51.475, taking over P1 overall.

Night Show

450SX Heat Race #1

The night show began and following a sight lap from the top five in the 250SX East Region Championship, the first 450SX heat race dropped the gate. Ty Masterpool got the holeshot but by the long rhythm section, Eli Tomac had jumped into the race lead. Jett Lawrence was mid-pack off the start and went down in the first turn, causing the #18 to fight through the field after remounting in dead last. Benny Bloss clipped Masterpool on the turn before the finish line on the first lap, sending the #67 to the ground. Jett Lawrence made his way up to 13th as the top three, Tomac, Cooper Webb, and Justin Barcia, separated  themselves some as Masterpool battled with Adam Cianciarulo. Shane McElrath went down in the sand while in a transfer spot and Fredrik Noren dropped his Kawasaki KX450 over the wall jump before the whoops. Jett Lawrence made it to fourth by the checkered flag as Tomac cruised to the race win.

450SX Heat Race #2

Hunter Lawrence and Jason Anderson got out front off the start of the second 450SX heat as a slight rain began. Justin Cooper was one of a handful of riders who got stopped up together in a pileup in the second turn. Cooper eventually came through 11th. Malcolm Stewart was battling Dylan Ferrandis for third until the #27 went down in the sand. He would finish fifth. Ferrandis has a mistake of his own in the sand but he was able to remount without losing any positions as he was riding by himself. Anderson held off the #96 for the heat race win although H. Lawrence really never got close enough for a pass attempt. Chase Sexton fought back to a sixth-place finish after being outside the top 13.

250SX Heat Race #1

In the first 250SX heat race of the night, Seth Hammaker got the holeshot in front of his home crowd! The Kawasaki rider lead Haiden Deegan, Daxton Bennick, and Kyle Peters. Deegan kept Hammaker honest all race, but the #43 held strong to take the checkered flag with a huge fist pump in front of his friends and family. Just 0.649 seconds separated the two at the checkered flag. Preson Boespflug had a great heat race, claiming fourth late in the race.

The fourth and final heat race of the night got underway, and it was Jalek Swoll holeshotting over Tom Vialle and Coty Schock. Swoll jumped away early, but Vialle latched on and didn’t let him go. Swoll held off Vialle as the #16 was rolling but could not get close enough for a pass. Marshal Weltin and Bryce Shelly came together on the face of the supercross triple behind the starting gate while battling for eight place. Moments later, Logan Leitzel went down hard on his right shoulder coming out of the sand section. Max Anstie moved around Schock to take over third. Out front, Swoll managed to hold off Vialle on the final lap for the race win! Vialle had the fastest lap of the race—a 53.901—but Swoll put in his best lap of the race on the eighth and final lap! Swoll’s 54.277 gave him enough room to take the checkered flag and earn the first Triumph Racing heat race win for the all-new TF 250-X machine. Great ride by the #33 there, as he has been dealing with a back injury for the last two months (since the Birmingham Supercross on March 9, I believe). Great sign of life for the Triumph team as they look to be improving and progressing each and every week. His fifth-place finish in the East/West Showdown last week was great in the stacked field. Despite his injury, the #33 is putting together a solid team.

The gates dropped on the 450SX LCQ and it was Kevin Moranz with the holeshot. Justin Cooper quickly got into the lead, and he would check out, taking the race win with ease. Shane McElrath made a pass on Moranz late to take second as Moranz claimed third with a big fist pump. Cade Clason came through fourth ahead of Kyle Chisholm.

The 250SX LCQ gate dropped and there was immediate carnage. A handful of riders went down in the first turn and then Luca Marsalisi got collected with another rider and had to take a ride on the back of the Alpinestars medical cart. He was angrily ripping tear offs while sitting up on the cart. Out front, Hardy Munoz took the race win over Marshal Weltin, Crockett Myers, and Vincent Luhovey.

Finally, it was time for the points-paying main events. The 250SX main event gates dropped and it was Seth Hammaker making it two holeshots in front of his home crowd as the Kawasaki rider positioned himself in the race lead. Hammaker lead Max Anstie, Jalek Swoll, Pierce Brown, Daxton Bennick, Preston Boespflug, Nick Romano, Bryton Carroll, Tom Vialle, Marshal Weltin, and Haiden Deegan. Hammaker clicked off a handful of laps in the lead until Anstie and him traded back and forth for the race lead. Anstie made a pass stick and got some breathing room as Hammaker had pressure from Swoll. Swoll was tripling into the sand and Hammaker was going double-double and to the outside. Then, Swoll jumped, which sent him over the inside roller and right into Hammaker's line! The two riders went down as they lost a handful of spots. Hammaker got up and tossed his goggles before riding in the lane behind the starting gates and the Tuff Blox near the track, then rejoined right in front of a remounted Swoll. Then, Brown would clip a Tuff Block going over the finish line jump, which sent him hard to the ground in between the finish lines and the whoops. This bumped Vialle up to second and Deegan up to third after the two were cat-and-mousing back and forth. Anstie would take the race win by 1.11 seconds over Vialle as Deegan rounded out the podium.

The gates dropped on the final race of the night, the premier class main event, and it was brought some heavy hitters out front early as Eli Tomac, Jett Lawrence, and Cooper Webb entering the turn ahead of the field. But it was the #18 who quickly got into sole possession of the race lead. The Yamaha teammates kept J. Lawrence honest for the early parts of the race before the championship leader started to run away with it. Webb got by Tomac as Jason Anderson and Chase Sexton joined the battle. Tomac had a few mistakes, one in the long rhythm section, which allowed Sexton to get by to take over the final spot ok the podium. The #1 would then run down Webb and make a pass for second late in the race. He gained a little bit of time on the #18, but the Honda rider was out front cruising through lappers and floating around the track relatively easily. Jett Lawrence claimed the race win over Sexton, then Anderson and Webb made contact exiting the whoops in the final turn! Webb was on the inside trying to defend but Anderson moved over and took the line away, closing the door on his competitor and stealing the final spot on the podium! Webb came through fourth and will leave the 15th round 12 points behind Jett Lawrence in the standings with only two rounds remaining. Tomac rounded out the top five.
