  • Anstie Headlines Four 2024 WSX Canadian GP Wildcard Entries
Vancouver, BC Canada GPFIM World Supercross Championship

The FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) is set to kick off next weekend in Vancouver, Canada. While most of the full-time riders in the series have been announced or will be announced shortly, the series does allow for Wild Card entries. Max Anstie is the defending SX2 (250) Champion of WSX, but he will not contest the full series this year. He has been announced as in as a Wildcard for round one, however. The series also announced three other Wildcard riders for Vancouver.

By the way, if you haven't been following WSX roster news closely, just know that Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen are both signed up for the full season this year, which consists of four events.

Below is the press release for the Wildcard entries in Vancouver

FIM World Supercross Championship confirms four Wildcard entries for 2024 WSX Canadian GP

Lucas Dunka, Cade Clason, and Preston Boespflug join Max Anstie as Wildcard entries for season-opening WSX Canadian GP at BC Place in Vancouver

Following the confirmation that Max Anstie will contest the 2024 WSX Canadian GP, the FIM World World Supercross Championship (WSX) has confirmed that a further three riders will join the reigning SX2 champion as Wildcard entries in Vancouver.

The event, which marks the opening round of the 2024 season, will see 28 full-time riders compete across the series’ WSX 450cc and SX2 250cc classes, plus four Wildcard entries, in an action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled evening of racing on 26 October.

As the first of three new Wildcard riders, Lucas Dunka will face the biggest test of his career to date when he makes his WSX debut in Vancouver, competing alongside racing icons including Ken Roczen and Eli Tomac in the series’ premier category.

A three-time Brazilian Arenacross champion, Dunka is used to going wheel-to-wheel with some of the best in the business, and following a successful 2024 season – where he finished third in the Brazilian AX1 series – is more than up to the challenge.

Lucas Dunka, WSX Wildcard Rider, WSX Canadian GP, said: “I’m very grateful to be selected as one of the Wildcard entries for the WSX Canadian GP. An opportunity of this size doesn’t come around every day, so I want to make sure that I seize it with both hands and make the most of it. Racing in the premier WSX 450cc class against some of the biggest riders in the world is a great chance for me to not only showcase my speed, but also show my work ethic and approach more broadly. I can’t wait for this opportunity.”

Cade Clason, from Arcadia, Ohio, will appear alongside Dunka on the WSX class grid and is eager to showcase his skills on the world stage by rejoining the championship after racing in the series full-time in 2022 and 2023.

With one overall top-five finish in the WSX class – scored at the 2022 WSX Australian GP – Clason will be hoping to make an immediate impact at BC Place in a series he is extremely familiar with

Cade Clason, WSX Wildcard Rider, WSX Canadian GP, said: “It’s great to be back in WSX for the 2024 season opener. I’ve enjoyed racing in the series over the past two years, and the championship is a very familiar environment to me. Feeling comfortable and confident means I’ll be able to just focus on my racing, and that should give me a good competitive edge. I can’t wait to race in Canada.”

In WSX’s SX2 250cc class, 19-year-old Preston Boespflug will line up alongside Max Anstie to make his official debut in the championship.

A native of Battle Ground, Washington, Boespflug is an exciting young talent, and with one AMA Supercross 250SX Futures podium, two top fives, and after placing 15th in AMA Supercross 250SX East earlier in 2024, is ready to battle against the best in the world.

Preston Boespflug, SX2 Wildcard Rider, WSX Canadian GP, added: “I’m super excited to be racing in Vancouver this October, and racing in WSX is a big moment for me in my professional career. I want to show everyone what I’m about, make an impact, and leave knowing that I left nothing on the table.”

Following the WSX Canadian GP, the FIM World Supercross Championship will head to Australia and the United Arab Emirates, racing at HBF Park in Perth on 23-24 November before contesting the season-closing WSX Abu Dhabi GP on 4 December at Etihad Arena.
